Seamen’s churches Abroad
The Finnish Seamen’s Church in Belgium is located in Brussels. Its activities in Belgium are part of the Seamen’s Church work in the Benelux countries. In addition to Belgium, we also serve Finns in Luxembourg and work closely with the Seamen’s Church in Rotterdam.
The Seamen’s Church in Hamburg has been operating for over two hundred years. Today, one of the Seamen’s Church staff is also stationed in Berlin. In Germany, several priests work in Finnish within the Evangelical Church in Germany as part of the Seamen’s Church team.
The Finnish Seamen’s Church in London is our oldest location. It has been operating continuously since 1882. The London Seamen’s Church serves all of the United Kingdom. Our work reaches Finns across both the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The Seamen’s Church in Rotterdam serves Finns throughout the Netherlands. Our church, founded at the Port of Rotterdam, is a meeting place for Finns and friends of Finland in the Netherlands.
On the Costa del Sol, the Seamen’s Church has a social counselor and the Finnish congregation of the Costa del Sol. In addition, we conduct seasonal work in Spain, including the Canary Islands.
Working since 1875
In addition to permanent locations, we also have mobile operations in Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Northern Germany, the Spanish Costa del Sol, the United Kingdom, Southeast Asia, and Poland.
We have been working for the benefit of seafarers and Finns living abroad since 1875. Finnish seamen’s church work began abroad as a pastoral care society for seafarers, but from the very early years, it has also included other Finns living and traveling abroad.
Even today, our diverse activities serve both the permanent Finnish communities in these areas and those on the move.
From the beginning of 2025, the operational leadership of the Church’s work among Finns abroad has been transferred entirely to the Seamen’s Church.
